Dr. Jan-Willem Henning is a national advocate for advancing breast cancer care across Canada.

Dr. Henning is on a mission to drive policy change and progress in the field, with a vision of bringing research and best practice solutions to the forefront through advocacy.

With a wealth of expertise as a medical oncologist, Dr. Henning brings a unique perspective and skill set to his efforts to evoke change. His deep understanding of the challenges faced by breast cancer patients and healthcare professionals fuels his passion for continuous improvement. Dr. Henning is actively engaged in efforts at local, regional, and national levels, tirelessly working to influence policymakers, collaborate with healthcare organizations, and raise public awareness. His goal is to address existing gaps, disparities and access to breast cancer care while shaping the future landscape through personalized treatment.

Dr. Henning champions research-backed initiatives and clinical best practices, with a motive to ensure that all Canadians affected by breast cancer receive the highest standard of care available today. Dr. Henning is a Clinical Associate Professor and Medical Oncologist at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre in Calgary Alberta and Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary. He received his medical degree (MBChB) in 1999 from the University of Orange Free State, South Africa and after immigrating to Canada; he received his certification of specialty training in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology at the Royal College of Canada (FRCPC).

His areas of clinical expertise include Breast Cancer, Sarcoma and Adolescent and Young Adult (AYA) Oncology. Dr. Henning is the immediate past program director for the medical oncology residency program in Calgary, and currently serves as the Vice-chair for the Royal College Subspecialty Training Program for Medical Oncology. His research interests include leading international therapeutic clinical trials as well as Real-World Evidence research in the areas of Breast Cancer, Sarcoma Malignancies and AYA oncology. He leads the Provincial Sarcoma Tumor Board in Alberta and co-lead the AYA Southern Alberta Program.
