Dr. Jeffrey Q. Cao, BSc (Hons), MD, MBA, FRCPC, is a national leader in radiation oncology and breast malignancies, celebrated for his exceptional contributions to the field. Dr. Cao’s journey towards excellence began with his BSc Honours in Pharmacology and MD at the University of Alberta. During his residency in Radiation Oncology at the University of Western Ontario, he showcased remarkable leadership qualities, serving on the Board of PAIRO. His passion for both medicine and business led him to pursue an MBA at the Richard Ivey School of Business, where he was recognized with the Health Sector Highest Contribution Award. Dr. Cao’s pursuit of excellence was further acknowledged with the OMA Resident Achievement Award upon his return to residency. He later earned prestigious fellowships, including the CARO Elekta Fellowship for research at the BC Cancer Agency in Vancouver and the inaugural CPQR Fellowship with the Canadian Partnership for Quality Radiotherapy.
Throughout his career, Dr. Cao has been a driving force in advancing radiation oncology, contributing significantly to the field as a member of the CARO Board of Directors and receiving the CARO Extraordinary Contribution Award. Currently, he is the longest serving member of the Canadian Radiation Oncology Foundation holding pivotal roles on the Board at Treasurer and now Chair. At the Tom Baker Cancer Centre, Dr. Cao leads as the foremost Breast Radiation Oncologist, specializing in breast and hematological malignancies, including Total Body Irradiation. Additionally, he serves as the Medical Lead for the Oncology Leadership and Development Office, demonstrating his commitment to enhancing patient care and medical education. Since 2020, Dr. Cao had led the Provincial Breast Tumour Team at Alberta Health Services Cancer Care Alberta with his multidisciplinary team of colleagues representing major and community cancer centres in Alberta.
Dr. Cao’s early career experiences, coupled with his dedication to advancing oncology, position him as a valued mentor in oncology leadership and team development, inspiring colleagues and aspiring oncologists alike. Moreover, Dr. Cao’s research and business acumen enables him to navigate the complexities of healthcare administration, strategic planning, and financial management. They understand the economic and organizational aspects of healthcare delivery, leveraging this knowledge to improve efficiency, optimize resources, and drive innovation within medical practices and healthcare institutions.
